About
RHIZOM is a transdisciplinary festival that has developed out of VAZEM collective dedicated to cultivating alternative electronic music and arts. It commits itself to uniqueness, character, innovation, passion and DIY-spirit.
During the festival, alternative electronic music and uncompromising club-culture will be experienced. The social responsibility of culture and its consumers will be discussed and envisioned through readings, film, dance, music, video and installation art.
Untypical, organizational initiatives will be tested. Gathering moments will allow connection for further creation. The rhizom will sprout.

Awareness
Instead of having a classic security concept, the collective aims to ensure a safer space by forming an awareness team for the festival. There will be no tolerance for violence, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, racism, classism, ableism, and any other form of discrimination.
Sustainability
The question of how club culture can be made sustainable plays a central role at the RHIZOM festival 2022. As the foundation for the planning, implementation, and further development of the festival, the collective has developed a sustainability concept based on previous experience. This concept refers to the 'three-pillar model' of sustainability, which considers the areas of 'society & social issues', 'environment', and 'profitability' as equal. The RHIZOM Festival 2022 will provide a platform to showcase the intangible value of club culture and the social innovations and organizational initiatives that emerge from it. Read more about the concept here.
Entry Price
We recommend an entry price of CHF 20.00 / day. Each participant is free to decide what amount they are willing or able to pay. No physical tickets will be sold. Get a stamp at the box office.
The collective is convinced that no one should renounce culture and entertainment due to financial limitations. The prix libre concept encourages people to reflect on which components are relevant to them when it comes to putting a price on something. For example, the appreciation of the work done for the festival, the support of the project, the expenses involved, or the idea of making culture and entertainment accessible for all. It also enables fair and equal pricing, adjusted to one’s individual resources, and empowers all participants.
The prix libre allows the organizers to create a festival without being profitable, without imposing pricing views on participants, and to distance themselves from the value society imposes on human labor.

Anina is often affiliated with various dance collectives like Timedance, Livity Sound, and Young Echo. She’s a resident on Bristol's Noods Radio and a regular guest on a monthly Jungle/Drum & Bass-focused show on NTS Radio.
Anina will play b2b with fellow Bristolian Guest on the fused RISIKOANLAGE- and RHIZOM-soundsystem. The program on the two soundsystems has been curated in collaboration with Ossia.
“Back to Normal” is not an option. Rhizom Festival is hosting a conference as part of this year’s festival at Rote Fabrik, asking how current social transformations and disruptions are reflected in and around club culture.

“Back to Normal” is not an option. Rhizom Festival is hosting a conference as part of this year’s festival at Rote Fabrik, asking how current social transformations and disruptions are reflected in and around club culture. We are calling for contributions that engage critically with this in an academic, artistic or cultural manner. We are interested in submissions that cover one or more of the following fields, especially with an (implicit or explicit) connection to the topic of club culture:
- Gender diversity and LGBTQIA+ in club culture
- Awareness in the club and in everyday life
- Capitalist structures and what to do about them
- Antiracism
- Accessibility and dis-/ability
- Critical engagement with Switzerland and Europe
- Critical engagement with one’s own privileges
- Sustainability and environment
- Therapeutic and recreational use of substances
- Club culture and art in and around Zurich
- Self-organized knowledge production and exchange
We are looking forward to a short abstract of your idea (ca. 300-600 words), submitted to kongress@rhizomfestival.ch

Fanzine Contributions
We also accept written contributions for the Rhizom Fanzine. It will offer a space for projects and collectives to present themselves on one A4 page (max.). Two such groups will additionally be invited to the Open Listening, to present their project in front of an audience. The listening will be accompanied by two experts, who can also act as moderators if required.
We are looking forward to your contributions on fanzine@rhizomfestival.ch
Deadline: 29 April, 2022
Art installations
As a third option, we invite you to treat the topics of the club culture in forms of an art installation which can be shown anywhere at the festival side. We aim to inspire outdoors as well as indoors. This includes walls, ceiling, hidden corners and even the toilets. We accept all kinds of installations, from paintings, sculptures to video- or sound installations.
We are looking forward to your idea. Please send a short concept of your installation including a cost estimate for materials and production to installationen@rhizomfestival.ch
